Our September 2007 spotlight was on Isabel Leonard who made her debut at the Metropolitan Opera that month. In April 2013 she won the Richard Tucker Foundation Award. The Gala was held on November 17, and the PBS program aired January 10. The nonprofit Richard Tucker Music Foundation awards its annual prize, including $30,000, to an American singer poised on the edge of a major national and international career.
Our spotlight of June 2012 was on Lilliam Barrios-Paoli who was Commissioner of the New York City Department for the Aging (DFTA). Then-mayor Michael Bloomberg appointed her to that position in December 2008 after her long career in both city government and the nonprofit sector. She has just been named Deputy Mayor for Health and Human Services by Mayor Bill de Blasio.
