Neighborhood Update: January 29, 2016

1.       DOT Proposal for Amsterdam Ave.: CB7 Full Meeting Vote February 2, 6:30PM

The Department of Transportation’s Bike Lane proposal for Amsterdam Ave. will be up for a vote by the Community Board 7 on Tuesday, February 2. The meeting will take place at the Goddard-Riverside  Community Center at Columbus Ave. and 88th Street at 6:30PM.

The proposal allows for a bike lane and pedestrian safety islands among other items between 72nd and 110th As Phase I. Phase II will involve streets downtown of 72nd. Traffic lanes will be decreased by one lane thus leaving 3 lanes of traffic. All delivery trucks will be constrained to the west side of the street.

The CB7 Transportation Sub-Committee reviewed the proposal and the resulting vote was a stalemate. Reasons for opposing the proposal included increase traffic congestion and hardship for merchants regarding deliveries.

Attendees will have an opportunity to speak during this session and a vote will follow. I hope that many of you will attend and express your viewpoint so that the community board can make an informed decision based on neighborhood interests. Please review the proposed DOT redesign HERE.

If you are unable to attend, please comment HERE if you’d like to submit testimony in advance of next Tuesday’s Full Board meeting
