Neighborhood Updates – May 19, 2017

Dear Neighbor,

1. Saturday, May 20 10am until 12pm – Planting of Tree Wells and Block Association Tables.

Please join us Saturday, May 20, 2017 as Urban Explorations Landscaping Company will be planting our beautiful summer flowers. You can also meet the board members who will have two block association tables displaying our NEW tote bags, NEW caps, and T-shirts; all displaying your block association logo. You will have a chance to pay your dues and purchase our merchandise. We would love to meet you! Please stop by and say hello!SAVE-THE-DATE: Our 2017 Yard Sale will be held on Saturday, October 14, 2017 from 10am to 5pm. If you are interested in a vendor table, please email Gary Waskow waskowg@yahoo.com. We are accepting vendor reservations NOW. The fees for the table are $50.00 for block association members, $55 for block residents, and $60 for off block residents. There will be a $5 early bird discount if you reserve now.

2. West 102nd/103rd Streets Block Association Spring Bazaar: Saturday, May 20 from 10am to 5pm

Browse the tables and pick up a lost treasure. There will be live music and refreshments. The bazaar will be held on 103rd between WEA and Riverside Drive. Support our neighboring block association!

3. Concert in Straus Park: The Blue Vipers of Brooklyn Wednesday, May 24, 2017 5pm to 8pm

Please join the Friends of Straus Park for a concert featuring The Blue Vipers of Brooklyn. On a spring eve, this is a wonderful quartet to listen to, relax, and enjoy the beautiful Upper West Side. The concert is FREE.

4. Annual Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Concert: Monday, May 29 from 10am to 12pm – 89th Street and Riverside Drive

In conjunction with New York Fleet Week, active duty Sailors, Marines and Coast Guardsmen will also participate. At 10:00 am, the United States Navy Band will perform a musical prelude. The Procession sets off at 10:30 am, led by the New York Scottish Pipes and Drums, Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War in period uniforms, and the Veteran Corps of Artillery. In addition, there will be numerous dignitaries and elected officials joining us at this ceremony.

5. Manhattanhenge: Tuesday, May 30 at Sunset

On May 30th, be sure to check out Manhattanhenge on 79th Street and Columbus Avenue! As the sun sets on May 30, it will be perfectly aligned with Manhattan’s east-west numbered streets.
