Signature section

The Yard Sale is a great way to turn little-used and unwanted items from every room and closet in your apartment into quick cash -- and have a wonderful time in the process!  Ours is one of the best-organized and most eagerly anticipated block parties on the Upper West Side.

When all vendor spaces have been reserved, we will take reservations for the waiting list in case we have any cancellations.

This page contains information prospective vendors need to know about the Block Association's Yard Sale. It also contains the agreement vendors must sign before the Block Association will rent them a space.

Before the Yard Sale
When and where it is

The 2010 Yard Sale will take place Saturday, September 25 (rain date September 26), from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The Yard Sale is held outdoors on 104th Street between West End Ave. and Riverside Dr.

Cell phone number (for the purpose of notifying the vendor coordinator Saturday morning that you will be late) will be available here Friday evening, September 24.

What you may and may not sell
Vendors may sell just about anything, except food and drinks. Books may not constitute more than 50 percent of your selling stock. Used items sell best; new items tend not to sell well. This is, after all, a yard sale!

Who benefits from the Yard Sale?
The Block Association raises money for its activities and programs by selling vendor spaces, food and drink, books, T-shirts, and silent auction items. You keep the proceeds from the sale of your goods.

Refunds
We will refund your cleared vendor payment if you notify the vendor coordinator by Saturday, September 11 or you may chose to donate the fee to the Block Assciation. If you cancel with the vendor coordinator between September 15 and 23, we can refund your cleared vendor payment only if we are able to re-sell your space.

There is no refund if you cancel on September 24 or 25. There is no refund if you do not show up on Saturday, September 25, the day of the Yard Sale. There is no refund if you can’t make the rain date, Sunday, September 26.

If you have not arrived by 10:00 a.m. on September 25 or have not called the Yard Sale vendor coordinator by then to let him know your arrival time, we will consider you a no-show and re-sell your space. This agreement is not transferable.

TOP

If we cancel
If we are forced to cancel or invoke the rain date, that decision will be made no later than 9:00 p.m. on Friday, September 24. You will know that we have cancelled or invoked the rain date by one of the following three methods:

- If you have given us your e-mail address The vendor coordinator will send you an e-mail message
- If you have Internet access The homepage of the block association's website will indicate that we have cancelled or invoked the rain date
- If you have no e-mail or Internet access Call 212 932-9082 to hear a pre-recorded message

If the Yard Sale is canceled entirely, your fee will be refunded in full with a block association check.

Day of the Yard Sale
When to arrive
You may start setting up after 8:00 a.m. on September 25. If you haven’t arrived by 10:00 or haven’t called the Yard Sale vendor coordinator's cell phone by then to let him know your arrival time, we will consider you a no-show and re-sell your space. The coordinator's cell phone number will be available on this page Friday evening, September 24.

Getting your space assignment
See the Yard Sale vendor coordinator or one of his assistants who will direct you to your pre-assigned space. (If you provided us with your e-mail address, we will have e-mailed you your space assignment number by Friday, September 24. Please do not phone asking for your space assignment number.)

About parked cars on the block
The block association makes every effort (short of towing) to remove parked cars from the block. We cannot guarantee, however, that your space will be car-free. We are sorry but we cannot reassign you to a car-free space. If your space has a car in it, please be aware that the driver may show up at any time and need to move off the block. We ask for your patience and understanding.

TOP

Emergency matters
New York City fire department regulations require that we leave five feet free on either side of our two fire hydrants. The police department requires that we leave enough room down the middle of the street for emergency vehicles (fire, police, ambulance) to pass. Please cooperate by not spilling over into a fire hydrant space or too far into the street. Your space measures 10 feet wide by approximately 8 feet deep.

TOP

After the Yard Sale
The Yard Sale is over at 5:00 p.m. We hope you will have had a profitable and fun day!

Cleaning up
You are responsible for cleaning your space at the end of the day. The block association will provide you with two large garbage bags into which you must put your leftover items and carry the closed bags to the corner of West End Ave. and 104th St. If you do not bring your bagged leftover items to the corner, and your space has not been cleaned, you will not be permitted to participate in next year’s Yard Sale.
